Tata Airlines began non-scheduled flights between Karachi and Baghdad via Jiwani, Sharjah, Bahrain and Basra. DC-2s loaned by the Government of India were used. During the year, Tata Airlines introduced three-engined Stinson Model A monoplanes.

Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Pandit, first Indian Ambassador to the U.S.S.R., left India for Moscow in the Air India DC-3 VT-ATI (Late. Capt. A.C. Gazder). The DC-3 flew the Indian flag for the first time.
