Monuments
Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most visited and iconic Buddhist Pagodas in the world. This Pagoda holds religious significance and is a cultural showcase of Myanmar. The Bagan archaeological site is home to over 2000 well-preserved pagodas and temples that exhibit the region's rich history and architectural achievements. The place was known to be the capital of the Pangan Kingdom from the 9th to the 13th century.
City attractions
Golden Rock, also locally referred to as Kyaiktiyo Zedi, is a pagoda that sits atop a huge rock that appears to be about to fall from the edge of a cliff. The pagoda and rock are both covered with gold leaves. At about 50 km from the mediaeval city of Bagan, Mount Popa is also a prominent pilgrimage site in the country.
