How does it work?

  • Use the widget given on the page to check your eligibility to receive an invitation.
  • Select your upgrade. You can upgrade up to 12 hours before departure of each eligible flight.
  • Enter your credit card details for general verification, review, agree to the terms and conditions and submit your upgrade offer.
  • You will receive a confirmation email within two hours containing the offer details for each leg of your flight.

What is included in Upgrade+?

With Upgrade+, you will be treated to a selection of gourmet food and beverages, increased baggage allowance, lounge access, priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling. 

What is not included in my Upgrade+?

Fare conditions, cancellation, rebooking fees, and accrual of Maharaja Points are based on your original booking. 

How do I get invited to Upgrade+?

Air India sends out invitations for Upgrade+ at its sole discretion. To receive an invite and be a part of the Upgrade+ programme, please ensure that your booking is updated with your correct email address for us to be able to reach out to you with an invitation.

You may also check your eligibility in the search widget by entering your booking reference number and last name for flights departing within the next 120 hours.​

You may not be eligible if:

a) You don’t have a valid ticket for Air India flight.

b) You are booked on other airlines, or the ticket is not issued on an Air India document.

c) Air India does not operate your flight.

d) You are travelling with more than nine passengers on the same reservation.

e) You are travelling with an infant i.e., a child under two years of age.

f) Your reservation is not yet confirmed.

g) You carry an animal (pet in the cabin or hold).

Will all my flights be eligible for an upgrade?

Only selected flights in your booking may be eligible for an upgrade. Air India solely decides on eligibility. You will receive an e-mail with all details. For example, Air India does not operate a flight, or you do not have a confirmed reservation for a particular flight, those flights will not be eligible for an upgrade.

I received an email for Upgrade+, but when I click ’Get Upgraded’ in the email, why do I see “Not eligible for upgrade” on the offer page?

Upgrade availability is limited and changes in real-time. It may have changed when you received the invitation and clicked on ‘Get upgraded’.

I have several people under my booking, but I only want some of them to get upgraded. Is it possible to do this? 

The option to upgrade is based on your reservation. This includes all passengers within the reservation. You may request to split the reservation by contacting our customer support or your travel agent.

Can I make changes to my original booking after purchasing an upgrade?

Upgrades are only valid for the specific flight or date indicated in the invitation email. The upgrade will not be applicable if you change the flight in your original booking.

What is the process of purchasing an upgrade?

You must have a confirmed reservation.

You can upgrade specific flights against the upgrade amount mentioned on the page.

Enter your credit card details for general verification, review, agree to the terms and conditions and submit your upgrade offer. 

You will be upgraded instantly and receive a confirmation email within two hours containing the offer details for each leg of your flight.

How much will the upgrade cost?

The upgrade price will be shown once you enter your booking reference and last name in our widget or click on ‘Upgrade now’. It is not inclusive of your original airfare.

Is the purchase amount for one or all passengers in my booking?

The upgrade price you see on the offer page is on a “passenger” basis, and the same price will be applied to each passenger in the booking when submitted.

How do I know how many passengers I purchase the upgrade for?

The applicable number of passengers will be shown under the ’Your offer(s)’ section. This should match the number of passengers in your booking.

What should I do if I have multiple flights eligible for an upgrade in my booking, and I do not want the upgrade for some flights?

Purchase can be made separately for each flight in your booking.

Is there a time limit to purchase an upgrade?

Upgrade+ window closes 12 hours before the departure of each eligible flight. Please note that if you would like to purchase an upgrade within six hours of the departure of your flight, you need to approach our airport check-in counter to enquire.

What forms of payment are accepted?

We only accept credit cards for the upgrade process.

Can I pay with two different credit cards?

No, each upgrade purchase can only be paid using one credit card.

Will I be charged anything if my purchase is rejected?

Payment will only be deducted from your credit card if your purchase is successful.

Once upgraded, can I transfer my upgrade to another flight?

Successful upgrades are non-transferable, non-refundable, and valid only on the flight and date shown.

Successful upgrades are non-transferable, non-refundable, and valid only on the flight and date shown.

What must I be aware of if I want to cancel a ticket that includes an upgrade?

Flights upgraded against Upgrade+ are non-refundable. If you want to cancel your ticket, you must forfeit the amount paid for the upgrade, irrespective of your ticket’s cancellation terms. Please be aware of this before upgrading your flight.

What happens with my upgrade if I want to rebook my flight?

The upgrade is valid exclusively for the flight and passenger or passengers for which/whom you have submitted the offer. If you decide you want to rebook, you forfeit your claim to the upgrade. Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer the upgrade to another flight. Upgrade payments are non-refundable. You will be rebooked based on the original applicable fare rules if you change your travel date. You will not be rebooked in the upgraded class. Please be aware of this before submitting an offer.

What happens with my upgrade if I miss my flight?

If you miss your flight, you forfeit your claim for the upgrade. Upgrade payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Will all special requests from my original booking be applied to my upgraded flight segment?

All applicable special requests, except seat preferences, will be carried over to your upgraded flight. Please note that seat preferences cannot be guaranteed.
