Redemption for Award Tickets are subject to availability of seats in the designated booking class.
Only single sector tickets can be issued on Star Alliance Partner Airlines. In the case of multi-sector journeys, presently, separate tickets need to be issued for every sector.
Online booking with points is available on the following Star Alliance Partner Airlines: United Airlines, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand and Austrian Airlines.

Under the respective airlines' policy, if tickets of a higher cabin class are unavailable for Lufthansa and Air New Zealand during booking, tickets will be issued for a lower cabin class but points equivalent to the higher cabin class fare will be deducted.
- Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will exit Star Alliance on August 31st, 2024. Post this date, Maharaja Club members will not be able to redeem their points to book tickets and upgrade their seats on flights operated by SAS.
- SAS members who have already made redemption bookings on Air India for a flight post 31st Aug 2024, will need to re-book. Please reach out to Customer Support for a refund or any further assistance.
Star Alliance Upgrade Awards
Eligibility for the Star Alliance Upgrade Awards depends on the booked RBD's and the participating carrier. A confirmed booking on the eligible class is required to request for Star Alliance Upgrade Awards redemption. Redemption for upgrades is subject to availability of seats in the designated booking class.
- Only confirmed and ticketed bookings on eligible booking classes are eligible for upgrades.
- Upgrades can be requested for member self, family members or friends.
- Codeshare flights are not eligible for upgrades.
- Upgrades are valid on stipulated paid fares with the corresponding booking classes.
- Economy to Business Class in Y, B booking classes.
- Business to First Class in C, D booking classes.
- Please note the expanded booking classes available on selected carriers as shown in the table below.*
